How I work

Counselling sessions are 50 minutes and take place in person in a private, confidential therapy room in Rugby, Warwickshire. Sessions are also available online or telephone. I work with adults 18+. However, I am presently training to include working with children from 11+.

The first step to creating change is to get in touch to arrange a brief conversation call to talk about why you would like to begin counselling. This could be for many reasons.

Following this conversation, an initial consultation will be scheduled. This gives us time to discuss the counselling therapy process, what you would like to work on and for you to decide whether I am the right counsellor for you. Further appointments will then be scheduled.

Our work together

Counselling offers a safe confidential space where you can talk and express how you feel to a trained professional who will not judge you. Instead, you will be heard with acceptance, understanding, and empathy. Person-centred counselling places you at the centre of the work we do together. The only person that knows what hurts and what is best for you is yourself.

I understand that purely person-centred counselling does not suit everyone. Therefore, I may integrate other therapy approaches to meet your individual needs. You can decide what would be more helpful for you.

I am committed to working with you, however, only you can do the inner work. I don’t have all the answers because they are within you and the actions you take. I will not judge or berate you for the life you have led or lead. In fact, the biggest teachers are our past mistakes.

I work with

  • Trauma, sexual abuse, and rape
  • Anxiety, stress and overwhelm
  • Depression, low mood
  • Lack of confidence and self-worth
  • Grief, loss, bereavement
  • Low self-confidence, low self-esteem
  • Neurodiversity
  • Panic attacks
  • Termination, miscarriage, infant loss, and miscarriage

Change may feel uncomfortable yet there is freedom and liberation as you find the possibility and potential that lies within you ready to awaken.

How will counselling help?

Counselling is a talking therapy which may help you process and work through painful experiences, and problems you may be having.

Sometimes the pressures of life can feel overwhelming, and a build up of stress and anxiety can feel like an emotional burden to carry. Events from the past may continue to trigger you in the present and interfere with with the way you relate to people. For example, feeling defensive when criticised, or feel lacking in self-confidence and self-esteem.

Seeing a counsellor gives you the opportunity to express your thoughts, feelings and emotions freely, and help you feel accepted, supported and understood in what you are going through. Many people find they have a better understanding of themselves, value themselves, and feel more empowered. In addition to feeling less stressed and able to live in the present, than dwell on the past or focusing and worrying too much on the future.

If you would like to discuss how counselling may help you. Please feel free to book a free 15 minute call to find out more.

Reviews

“I can't speak highly enough about our working relationship. A consummate professional, Isobel is approachable, flexible, super friendly, and an excellent communicator. I always look forward to speaking with her during my next sessions, knowing 100% that she will provide me with the encouragement, understanding and reassurance I need. If you are looking for counselling or wellbeing, telephone therapy in Warwickshire or the surrounding vicinity, make Isobel your number one.

— Taylor Williams

"I have been seeing Isobel now for about 6 months, and I am a huge fan of her and her services! She has an incredibly calming presence, and really takes the time to talk to me about needs at the start and at the end of each session. She is genuinely interested in her client's wellbeing, something I have not experienced with previous therapists. I have personally seen the positive changes that have happened in my life whilst seeing Isobel, and for that reason I know I can go to her for help whenever I need it and I know I will reap the benefits of her services. I would 100% recommend giving Isobel a go, you won't regret it!

Expat Counselling

Having been an expat for over 28 years, I am uniquely placed to understand some of the difficulties, problems and issues that this segment of the population experience.

Examples of where expat counselling may be helpful are:

  • Feelings of overwhelm, sadness
  • Disorientation
  • Culture shock
  • Lack of belonging
  • Homesickness, isolation and loneliness
  • Frustration, and stress in trying to integrate
  • Lack of support
  • Re-entry emotional upset

Women’s Wellness Counselling

There are times and phases in a woman's life that cause hormones to fluctuate. Whether that be due to a medical condition, monthly cycle, pregnancy, or menopause, mood and mental health can be affected. For some women, emotions such as anger, sadness, depression, low mood, and irritability feel horribly uncomfortable. While physical symptoms can be relieved through following a healthy lifestyle, mental health may require a different approach such as counselling. Your counsellor provides a safe and confidential space for you to talk through your experiences without feeling judged. Counselling sessions offers the opportunity to untangle feelings and emotions that are impacting your life and perhaps relationships negatively.

Third Culture Kid Counselling

What is a third culture kid? Or a third culture adult? Both known as TCKs, and ATCKs. They are people who have spent large chunk of their life outside their "home" country with the knowledge they will have to go home one day. This includes, children within military families, missionary families, and corporate moves.

For children this can be during their developmental years. While there are many positive benefits within this experience some struggle with their identity, and lack of belonging to one place. Due to the transient nature of their life they may suffer from unresolved grief and sadness due to all the goodbyes to friendships made. In essence, they have learned that friendships while precious are temporary. Therefore, they may struggle with relationships. These same issues are also present in adult third culture individuals.

Please get in touch if any of the above resonates. You are not alone.
